The Monastery

The Monastery

On the eastern side of Sir Bani Yas Island lie the remains of an early Christian monastery that dates back to the late 6th century AD. The monastery was abandoned by the last few monks in 750 AD, following the coming of Islam in the previous century. This is the only early Christian site in the UAE and is of great historical significance.  It was founded by Christians involved in the gulf pearl trade, due to the fact that Sir Bani Yas Island was once an important strategic location in the ancient sea trade route from Mesopotamia through the Arabian Gulf to south eastern Arabia and beyond.

A visit to the monastery is only available as part of the Nature & Wildlife Walk upon request.

Deep Sea Fishing

Deep Sea Fishing

Charter a fishing boat for up to four people and experience a relaxing trip out at sea for three to six hours. Enjoy being taken care of by a team of competent crew and experienced fishermen, whether you are just a beginner or a seasoned angler.  Please note that we use barbless hooks and generally practice trolling instead of bottom fishing, so as to preserve the ocean’s precious bounty.  Guests who wish to savour their prize catch are welcome to keep one fish per boat trip, to be handed over to a master Anantara chef and cooked to your personal preference.

Subject to weather conditions.
Bait, tackle, fishing permits and a range of soft drinks included.
Additional snacks and lunch available upon request at an additional cost.
